Barrels, Friends, and More Barrels

SaltyLips Rosary Walsh Indonesia surf Salty Lips

Getting some shade.

After two months of radio silence on an Indonesian Island, Rosary finally reappeared for just long enough to share her surf stories and photos before heading off again to another spot. And it certainly looks like she has been having all the fun! After leaving the cold waters of Ireland she returned to some of her favourite Indo waves, catching up with SaltyLips’ crew member Shannon, along with some old friends, and collecting a few new ones. With the heart of the 2014 season in full swing in the Mentawai’s, here is a look back at our Aussie Mermaid Shannon‘s salty sessions from last year.

Mexico Sessions Uno

Good waves, rank food and befriending strays

El Gringo Liam.

El Gringo Liam.

Whilst I was digging sea urchin spines out of my foot in El Salvador, Rosary was scoring super fun waves in Mexico.

Straight off a 26 hour bus journey from El Salvador she had bumped into an Irish friend Liam, purchased a second hand tent and began her exploration of the Mexican coastline with him and a couple of Norwegians.  Continue reading

Running her Papaya Wellness yoga retreats, holding raw chocolate workshops, helping the local community, playing in the sea on flat days and most importantly surfing, this chica knows how to live dream.  Thanks for making us all smile India. Beatings & Boatrips

To El Salvador

A boat load...

A boat load…

As with every surf trip, sometimes your timing is just off. For once we found ourselves praying for the swell to drop. After surfing a mushy, or in Rosary’s words ‘a fat lump of a wave’, crowded left hand point (the only option on a bigger swell), we decided to take on the beachbreak…just to get a feel for it. The tide was too low, and swell too big for it, but Rosary coaxed me in. Continue reading

South Nicaragua

Semana Santa, sun-scorched walks & surfing closeouts!

Girl Time

Girl Time

First stop on the three month trip was the beautiful South Nicaragua, where I met Rosary and we caught up with SaltyLip’s crew member India. We stayed in a vibrant little fishing village surrounded by some of Nicaragua’s best beach & point breaks…the perfect first stop for the trip. Apart from the mildly excessive drinking on my part in the first week during Semana Santa (Easter), it was more like a fitness bootcamp….over two hours a day walking to and from the surf breaks, yoga, and India’s amazing healthy cooking and mind blowing smoothies.
